The double bass has its origin in classical music. It was a logical choice to incorporate the double bass in popular music in the early 1920s. In jazz music the intstrument was chosen to replace the bass tuba because of its greater potential for playing flowing bass lines.
The double bass can be played by plucking or bowing. Plucking is the most commonly used technique in popular music. 
The double bass is tuned in fourths.

​​In our bass lessons we spend most of our time playing the music you like. We discuss technical and theoretical topics always in the context of the music we are playing.
You develop a solid musical basis by learning to play by ear. Practising and discussing your favourite music, you learn to recognize notes, chords and rhythmic patterns. The fun of playing is key to the lessons and to your musical development.
